National Competitions

Bowls England organise the following competitions:-

  • Mixed Pairs

  • Mixed Fours (two ladies & two men)

  • Men’s and Ladies Senior (over 55) Singles and Pairs

  • Family Pairs

  • Champion of Champions Singles

Entry can be made by completing a form or online on the Bowls England website. Please speak to the Club Captains if you are interested in playing and have any difficulty entering.

SSBC Team selections for the National competitions can be viewed here.

You will be notified by e-mail or by post with details of your first match and then you are given two weeks to complete each round, should you be successful.


Top Club

There are separate ladies and gents Top Club competitions with the following formats:

Gents Top Club
2 Wood Singles
4 Wood Singles
4 Wood Pairs
3 Wood Triples
2 Wood Fours
Ladies Top Club

4 Wood Singles
4 Wood Pairs
3 Wood Triples
2 Wood Fours

Entry is by selection committee and would be finalised during April.

Top Club is a knockout competition with flexible dates. If you are named as the challenger, you are responsible for match arrangements and you should provide your opponents with with three separate dates (ideally varying in time and day) to choose from.


Men’s Club 2 Fours

Men’s Two Fours is a knockout competition with flexible dates. If you are named as the challenger, you are responsible for match arrangements and you should provide your opponents with with three separate dates (ideally varying in time and day) to choose from.

Entry is by selection committee and would be finalised during April.

Both teams play on the same day and time at the same venue.


Tony Allcock

The Tony Allcock competition is a knockout competition with flexible dates. If you are named as the challenger, you are responsible for match arrangements and you should provide your opponents with with three separate dates (ideally varying in time and day) to choose from.

Both teams consisting of 2 x Fours, play on the same day and time at the same venue.

Entry is by selection committee and would be finalised during April.

SSBC have two teams entered into the Tony Allcock competition, with each team playing their fixtures on different dates and times.

There are no refreshments for these events but tea/coffee will be provided and alcoholic drinks will be available to purchase from the bar.


Results of all these competitions are recorded on the Bowls England website.

If eventually successful, you would play at the National Championships in August at Leamington Spa.

For home draws in National Competitions, you are expected to provide refreshments.
